How do you approach managing legal aspects during periods of instability or crises, and how does your legal strategy align with the broader business strategy to ensure the organisation’s resilience?
Generally, I approach challenges with a “can do” attitude, grounded in a thorough understanding of the facts, the client’s needs (business strategies), and the applicable law. This approach remains consistent, whether in a crisis or any other circumstance. When providing legal services, I see myself as a “mountain guide” for my clients—you tell me which mountain you want to climb, and I guide you through the journey. There will be moments where I must say “no” to a certain path, and it’s crucial to heed that advice to ensure we safely reach the top and achieve the goal. This dynamic ensures that our legal strategy is always closely aligned with the business strategy, allowing for resilient, well-informed decision-making that supports long-term organisational stability.
What are the main cases or transactions you have been involved in recently?
Recently, I have been involved in multimillion-dollar negotiations, securing equipment for Ternium México’s announced US$3.2 billion investment. Additionally, I’ve overseen complex litigation and arbitration procedures, all of which are integral to supporting our company’s ambitious growth and operational goals.
How do you manage and motivate your legal team to ensure high performance and professional growth?
To maintain a high-performing team that remains engaged and committed, I focus on three key factors that must work in perfect harmony. Firstly, good compensation is essential—key talent needs to feel that they are being fairly rewarded for their long hours and hard work. Secondly, non-economic recognition is equally important. The team needs to feel valued and appreciated for their achievements beyond financial compensation. Lastly, respect is critical. Each team member must be treated with dignity and respect in all interactions. When these three elements—fair salary, recognition, and respect—are in place, you can be confident in having a motivated and high-performing legal team
