How do you approach managing legal aspects during periods of instability or crises, and how does your legal strategy align with the broader business strategy to ensure the organisation’s resilience? 

Crisis and instability are constant in my day to day. LATAM markets change rapidly, and lawyers need to be prepared. Resilience is how we aslegallyl approach every matter to find fashionable ways to tackle risks. Alignment with top management to dive deeply into every matter is of the essence, because in that way we will be able to define priorities and to find the best pathways, as well as to set appropriate times to execute the strategies. 

What strategies do you employ to ensure the successful digital transformation of a legal department while maintaining compliance with Mexico’s data protection laws?   

As legal we are now carrying out a process to learn the best digital tools which allow Legal team and eventually the company to transform our processes to improve efficiency and times of response, with no additional risks for the company, including not just data protection but cybersecurity. Normally the company is conservative to changes, however we are now more convinced that we need to move faster to adopt a smooth digital transformation. 

In your opinion, what are the main trends that are salient in your country currently (these can be legal, political, economy or business-based)? 

We had presidency elections (and many countries in the world too) this 2024. More substantial reforms to the legal system are expected to occur, included a radical change in judicial setup, such as elections for judges, however in the meanwhile as country for the last years we have been silent to improve topics like data protection, antitrust and cybersecurity matters. On the economy side, we have a great opportunity to seize nearshoring to add value to our national industry. As lawyers we need to be active to discuss and address through industry chambers, bar of lawyers and associations in order to analyse and set the tone of the discussions.
