What are the main cases or transactions you have been involved in recently? The Group’s growth tends to be vertical and organic, focusing primarily on the development of pharmaceutical and technological facilities in Mexico, the United States, and other Latin American countries. Each project integrates multiple transactions and regulatory aspects that encompass significant investments in each region, covering legal issues with a high degree of complexity in areas such as real estate, tax, labor, among others, including public international law. 

How do you prioritise diversity and inclusion within your legal department, and what initiatives have you implemented to foster a more inclusive and equitable work environment?   

At Grupo Pisa, we have various codes and policies in place to protect vulnerable groups from any form of systematic abuse or aggression. Additionally, we have implemented awareness campaigns that provide access to this information, raising awareness among our employees, clients, and suppliers. Some time ago, we established the compliance department within the structure I oversee, allocating resources to undertake this important task. Employees, clients, and suppliers have access to physical mailboxes on different locations, as well as an email, a webpage and a telephone number to file complaints, comments, and/or questions (it can be anonymously) regarding ethics and/or situations involving delicate matters. These filings are addressed immediately by inhouse staff, as well as an independent organisation, specialised on these subjects. I would be remiss not to mention that I also serve on three separate committees overseeing compliance regarding the following: i) internal affairs; ii) ethics; and iii) equity. It’s worth noting that the company holds various independent certifications issued by international bodies, and that our Human Resources department also has responsibilities focused on promoting, protecting, and overseeing these efforts. 

In your opinion, what are the main trends that are salient in your country currently (these can be legal, political, economy or business-based)? The biggest and most delicate issue right now in Mexico is the democratic transition between the outgoing and incoming government. We recently had federal elections, and the hegemonic political party won. For this reason, both the private sector, which includes industrial segments, and other sources of investment, along with international organisations, will be vigilant regarding our institutions, laws, and human rights. The incoming government is in the process of forming its virtual cabinet, while the outgoing government prepares to present reforms and legislative initiatives before it ends. Both developments will be significant and shall have a transcendental impact for the good or for the worse. We are optimistic.
