Counsel, senior manager | Mondelēz Snacking México
Spotlight on: My career
Since November 2022, I am counsel, senior manager at Mondelēz Snacking Mexico. I am responsible of legal support for supply chain, regulatory affairs, government relations and manufacturing operation in Mexico. The legal team at Mondelēz has been revamped due to the acquisition of Ricolino, a major candy company in Mexico, which doubled the size of the company and added US$171mn net income, per year. The current operation for the Mexican Business Unit includes seven manufacturing sites, which I legally oversee. I have successfully implemented a legal compliance project to assess and ensure business continuity and the timely execution of expansion projects in all our sites.
In this regard, I have been able to identify permits/authorisations/notifications before federal, state, or local authorities that must be in place and their actual status, build close relationship with authorities and shareholders in the company and prevent and resolve major legal issues. Together with the Corporate and Government affairs department, we have developed a strategy that takes into consideration not only the legal but political situation where manufacturing facilities are located, looking forward to achieving full compliance without compromising the operation. Likewise, for some sites, I have created a second and third stage of the project to foresee next steps related to the company structural changes to come, due to the above-mentioned acquisition; and included all the distribution sites and relations with our 3PL partners. I have also been able to work with a global task force to bring new technologies to the organisation, with the successful implementation of a legal tool that allows the automatised generation of contracts in Mexico and already delivers KPIs for legal and procurement areas. In 2024, Ricolino and Mondelēz have legally become one company: Mondelēz Mexico. Which implies all our partnerships, commercial relationships and permits before any authority are in the process of being under one unique legal entity. For the biennium 2023-2024, I am vice coordinator of the economic competition Committee in ANADE (National Association of Corporate Lawyers).
As a corporate counsel, I have been able to be part of cross functional teams that have shaped and are shaping the future of the industries they are part of in Mexico. Before Mondelez, I worked at AstraZeneca as Senior Legal Manager, a role in which I assisted the Latin American teams in the COVID-19 vaccine supply agreements signed with various governments in the region. For the first time in Mexico, I also implemented an Antitrust program within the organisation, which helped as a guideline for all patient programs and deals with distributors. I previously held the position of legal counsel at Colgate Palmolive where I served as a lawyer for Colgate’s most important manufacturing plant globally and successfully negotiated the clean energies’ most important agreement worldwide. Previously I was Marketing legal counsel for the innovation team in Latin America and an active member of CONAR (Self-regulation and Advertising Ethics Council). I started my professional career at Pfizer and its subsequent spin-off Zoetis. Later, I worked at Sealed Air, where I developed the legal department overseeing r Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean.
