How do you approach managing legal aspects during periods of instability or crises, and how does your legal strategy align with the broader business strategy to ensure the organisation’s resilience? 

When managing the legal aspects for the region, my approach is to seamlessly integrate legal strategy with our business objectives. My priority is to be proactive, identifying potential risks early and, together with my team, crafting strategies to mitigate them while fostering a culture of risk prevention and continuous improvement.  

During challenging times, we rely on our core values to guide us. We firmly believe in always doing the right thing while delivering the most value-added solutions. This commitment is fundamental not only for maintaining and leading a legal and compliance department but also for building lasting trust with our customers.  

   

What are the main cases or transactions you have been involved in recently?  

One of the most interesting business deals I have recently been involved in is with Torex Gold’s Media Luna project. Its significance extends beyond economic value; it highlights a profound commitment to environmental sustainability and the future of mining. In collaboration with our clients, we are progressively modernising the mining sector, steering it towards greater sustainability. Our purpose is to drive this shift and advance the world through engineering. We have a unique contribution to make in helping to create a net-zero, circular, and regenerative world.  

 

How do you manage and motivate your legal team to ensure high performance and professional growth? 

I promote a general manager mindset within our team, encouraging a collaborative spirit across departments. By adopting business management best practices and implementing them within our department, we encourage our team to move beyond mere legal analysis and into actionable solutions intertwined with broader business objectives. We foster accountability within the team for both successes and setbacks, allowing us to learn from each experience and focus on future improvements. We measure the department’s performance not just by activity metrics, such as the number of contracts reviewed or transaction value, but by the impact on the business and our team members’ well-being.  

As a company, we prioritise psychological safety, ensuring that our work environment promotes well-being and supports mental health, while placing a strong emphasis on fostering a work-life balance.
