How do you approach managing legal aspects during periods of instability or crises, and how does your legal strategy align with the broader business strategy to ensure the organisation’s resilience?

Managing legal aspects during periods of instability or crises requires a proactive and agile approach. The primary objective is to mitigate risks while ensuring business continuity.

What are the main cases or transactions you have been involved in recently?

Recently, the legal department at América Móvil has been involved in several significant cases and transactions:

We have successfully overseen the legal aspects of a major acquisition, ensuring compliance with antitrust regulations and conducting thorough due diligence. This involved negotiating terms, drafting agreements, and managing regulatory approvals.

Additionally, we handled a complex contract dispute with a key supplier, which required negotiation, mediation, and ultimately a favorable settlement. This helped maintain business relationships while protecting the organisation’s interests.

Our team has been actively working on ensuring compliance with new data protection laws, which included revising privacy policies, implementing data protection measures, and training employees on compliance requirements.

In your opinion, what are the main trends that are salient in Mexico currently (these can be legal, political, economy or business-based)?

Despite challenges such as inflation and political uncertainty, Mexico’s economy shows signs of resilience, driven by sectors like manufacturing, energy, and technology. The government’s focus on infrastructure projects and foreign investment is also notable.

The country is undergoing significant regulatory changes, particularly in areas like judiciary, labour laws, energy, and data protection. Businesses need to stay updated on these changes to ensure compliance and mitigate risks.

There is a growing emphasis on digital transformation across industries. Companies are investing in technology to enhance efficiency, competitiveness, and customer experience. This trend is also driving the need for robust cybersecurity measures and data protection compliance.
