Can you tell us about your journey to becoming an in-house counsel? What inspired you to pursue a career in this field?

Eight years ago, when I was working as an intern in a well-known Pay-Tv company, my first boss gave me the opportunity to develop myself because she saw my willingness and ability to change my path. She took the time to explain how an in-house lawyer can be the best business partner and how the legal team is a fundamental part of the company in every decision. I was thrilled to be a part of such a large enterprise and perfectly synchronised machinery and of course, was excited to help the company achieve their goals and leave a footprint with my work.

In your role as an in-house counsel, what are the main responsibilities and tasks you handle on a day-to-day basis?

My role is to keep the company running as smoothly as it can, advise the business about risks and help them implement new strategies and business plans. I am responsible for several legal topics from all fields of law, from labour to business law. I took the time to prepare contracts, coordinate litigations, attend committees and participate in new projects and in general take every topic that needs legal advice and work.

What are some of the key challenges you have faced as a rising star in-house counsel, and how have you overcome them?

The main challenge would be the changes in this enterprise; every day, the company needs to change and evolve to remain the best option for our customers. Of course, as a lawyer, I must change with it. So, to be the best business partner, I need to focus on evolving as fast as the world is moving and adapting to it.

What steps have you taken to enhance your professional development and expand your legal skill set?

I have a very experienced boss who is currently helping me to develop for the next level, through mentoring and continue training in soft skills and taking the time to discuss topics and experiences to make the best decisions.  I try to keep updated on new legal trends by reading articles and discussions regarding industry topics and participating in trade associations to keep me informed of any changes in the law.
