What are the most significant cases or transactions that your legal team has recently been involved in? 

Our legal team has been instrumental in the growth of Samsung Ads and Samsung TV Plus in Mexico, positioning it as the second free content platform with more hours consumed per month and the fifth most used application in the brand’s Smart TVs. In a short period, these new business areas have consolidated as one of the leaders in free Streaming Services in Mexico, boasting over 110 FAST channels since their launch in 2021. 

Recently, we have negotiated key contracts to bring high-quality content, such as Olympic Games broadcast, which have added and boosted the value of this service, enhancing our offering and attracting a more diverse audience, strengthening the brand’s presence in Mexico. 

On the other hand, we have worked hard to promote and strengthen the intellectual property of Samsung Electronics Mexico. The goal is to obtain a special recognition as a famous trademark, which means, highlighting the trademark recognition by consumers, and implies protecting and promoting our intellectual property assets effectively. These actions increase Samsung’s visibility, prestige, and reinforce the confidence of consumers and business partners in Samsung and bring additional recognition to the brand, which is ranked number five worldwide by the INTERBRAND consulting firm. 

Could you share an example of a time when you came up with an innovation that improved how your legal team works and did not come at a large expense?    

One of the main characteristics of being part of a technology company is innovation and as a legal team we try to implement new mechanisms to streamline and shorten processes to keep the pace of the company. For this reason, we implemented a legal chatbot a year ago, which has proven to be a very beneficial innovation for our legal team and its internal clients. This chatbot is designed to provide basic information on legal processes and help employees quickly find commonly used legal documents that are necessary for the proper performance of their activities. This tool has significantly improved efficiency by reducing the response time previously spent on repetitive and simple queries, allowing legal staff to focus on more complex and strategic tasks. This implementation has not involved a large expense, as we have developed it through our internal IT team, using the information systems and technologies that we have at our disposal within the company. 

Additionally, we are implementing a digital signature system in response to the recent reform on electronic promissory notes. This system ensures a more practical, safer and more efficient document management, always protecting the company’s interests. 

What is a cause, business related or otherwise, that you care about, and why?  

As a technology company, it is important to consider the increasing development of new technologies such as Artificial Intelligence, which raises interesting challenges and opportunities for our legal profession. While AI promises to automate and improve many legal processes, there is also uncertainty about how it might affect the demand for traditional legal services and how lawyers must adapt to remain relevant and effective in a changing digital environment. Therefore, it is important to be aware of regulatory and technological changes, proactively adapting to those changes to anticipate and mitigate risks, and leveraging these new technologies to enhance our role as in-house counsel.
