What are the most significant cases or transactions that your legal team has recently been involved in?

Over the past year, our legal team has navigated a dynamic landscape, providing robust legal support for four key product divisions and our operations. We have been actively involved in addressing the competitive landscape within the Mexican cosmetics market, particularly by monitoring and analysing competitor communications to ensure alignment with industry best practices and self-regulatory commitments, thereby maintaining a level playing field and protecting consumers.

Additionally, we are spearheading a major sustainability initiative by legally structuring and advising on the transition of our factories, distribution centres, and offices to the wholesale electricity market (‘MEM’ in Spanish). This move enables us to procure clean energy and significantly reduce our environmental footprint, especially in this election year and amid the complex Mexican energy scenario.

Could you share an example of a time when you came up with an innovation that improved how your legal team works and did not come at a large expense?

Recognising the need to modernise and streamline our contractual processes, I spearheaded the development and implementation of L’Oréal Mexico’s first comprehensive contract policy and its inaugural contract lifecycle management (CLM) tool. This initiative leverages existing company resources and technology to improve efficiency and service levels, including electronic signatures through e-signature solutions like DocuSign for faster turnaround times and reduced reliance on physical paperwork.

We also implemented process automation by utilising platforms such as Microsoft Power Apps to automate routine contract workflows, allowing the legal team to focus on more strategic tasks. Additionally, we transitioned to a centralised contract repository using tools like Ironclad and DocuSign to enhance contract visibility, accessibility, and compliance.

This initiative not only increased efficiency but also facilitated better risk management and resource allocation within the legal team.

What is a cause, business-related or otherwise, that you care about, and why?

I am particularly passionate about advancing sustainable business practices. L’Oréal for the Future (L4TF) encompasses all the group’s initiatives, with the transition to clean energy sources serving as a tangible example of how our business can make responsible choices that benefit both the environment and consumers. Another initiative we are particularly proud of in the legal team is the legal structure established to donate finished products that would otherwise have been destroyed. This L4TF global initiative also reflects my personal commitment to sustainability and my desire to contribute my legal expertise to initiatives that promote a greener future.
