What are the most significant cases or transactions that your legal team has recently been involved in?

Our legal team has been deeply involved in the development and enhancement of an app designed to serve the Hispanic community in the United States. This app offers a range of features, including (i) a prepaid debit card for Hispanic residents in the US, and (ii) the capability to send cross-border remittances to Mexico and 15 other Latin American countries. Additionally, users can reload foreign phones, pay bills, and access many more features in the future. Our goal is to create a comprehensive financial solution that meets the diverse needs and expectations of our users, providing them with cutting-edge technology at their fingertips.

The complexity of this project lies in the integration of various partners that provide regulated services, aligning them with our purpose and taking advantage of the financial ecosystem that Grupo Elektra already operates in Mexico. By leveraging the extensive footprint of the Group and the trust of our clients, we aim to deliver a seamless and reliable service.

Despite being a small team, we have quickly adapted to new technological tools and techniques from diverse fields, allowing us to thrive in our fast-paced environment. While innovation in the legal department often seems like a luxury reserved for larger teams with dedicated resources, we believe that small, high-performing teams can also achieve significant progress through resourcefulness.

Rather than pursuing traditional innovation, we prioritise practicality and efficiency. Our objective is clear – to enhance productivity for the entire organisation by minimising disruptions, streamlining processes, and reducing administrative burdens.

What is a cause, business related or otherwise, that you care about, and why?

One cause that is particularly important to us is helping Hispanics in the US achieve their dreams by connecting them with their loved ones back home through innovative financial products. Navigating the financial landscape of a foreign country is challenging, and this challenge is compounded when traditional financial services are inaccessible, whether for basic needs such as having an account or a card, or for sending money back home through a reliable and affordable channel.
