Luz Del Carmen Espinosa Vidrio
Legal manager | Bupa México
What are the most significant cases and transactions that your legal team has recently been involved in?
Bupa applied to its regulator for authorisation to operate a new line of business. Since I joined Bupa, we have been working with the legal team and the areas involved to submit all the requirements to obtain the authorisation, which was obtained in May 2024. This new line of business allow Bupa México to be more proactive in prevention and to provide services aimed at preventing health through actions for the promotion, early detection, monitoring and control of diseases. On the other hand, I have been involved in the transformation of our hospital, which requires a new legal structure that includes the creation of new partnerships and contracting schemes to achieve greater efficiencies.
Could you share an example of a time when you came up with an innovation that improved how your legal team works and did not come at a large expense?
After a visit to London last year, our legal director was introduced to the legal design tool. One of our objectives for this year was to learn about this skill and implement it in our legal documents to make them easier and more accessible for our users. With this innovation, first of all, we have redesigned our MSA, making it more user-friendly, easier to read, and reducing response times. In the coming months, we seek to redesign all our documents, allowing Bupa to be the most innovative insurer.
What is a cause, business related or otherwise, that you care about, and why?
Throughout my almost 17 years of experience as a lawyer, I have learned the importance of working in a legal team that is seen as an ally of the company, creating processes where any kind of risks can be prevented and where we focus on taking care of the company’s interests to achieve the established objectives and goals.
