What are the most significant cases or transactions that your legal team has recently been involved in? 

We have been working on launching new projects and investments in several Latin American countries. Starting operations from scratch in new countries is always challenging. These projects contain a mix of corporate, tax, customs, real estate, finance, and commercial elements, requiring a multidisciplinary team. Specifically, a deep understanding of the economic and tax benefits each country offers, the type of investment the company will make, and its business plan. This knowledge helps us determine the type of legal entity to establish and the appropriate tax/customs regime for starting operations. As legal counsel, my primary role has been to identify obstacles, assess potential legal effects, and navigate the changing landscape of internal and external factors.

Additionally, as part of our team’s core principles, we have a global initiative that involves visiting sites within the regions. This reinforces the responsibility each employee has to conduct business with integrity and to speak up against unethical conduct. As the Legal Department, we are committed to ensuring the company stays on an ethical path.

Could you share an example of a time when you came up with an innovation that improved how your legal team works and did not come at a large expense? 

Our legal team has implemented several innovations to enhance efficiency and customer service. One notable example is the implementation of automation tools for generating legal agreements. We developed standardised templates tailored to the specific requirements of the region, significantly reducing the time spent drafting and filling in general information. This tool reinforces the belief that contracts should be easily understood by anyone, thereby reducing review times and eliminating administrative work.

We also improved internal workflows to minimise business interruptions, simplify processes, and improve response times to internal clients. These innovations have allowed us to serve our clients more efficiently without incurring significant expenses.

What is a cause, business-related or otherwise, you are passionate about, and why? 

From a business perspective, I am passionate about building relationships with coworkers. Good relationships enhance skills and communication, leading to more efficient task completion. This collaborative environment fosters diverse perspectives and increases productivity. In any project, I prioritise understanding the participants and strengthening our relationships, as this fosters learning and enables us to achieve our goals more efficiently.

I am also deeply involved in promoting diversity and inclusion within the workplace. I firmly believe that a variety of perspectives is crucial for innovation, creativity, and success. As a member of the LATAM Diversity and Inclusion Committee for Aptiv, I advocate for creating an inclusive environment where diverse backgrounds, abilities, and experiences are valued. This approach not only promotes a strong sense of belonging but also drives growth and prosperity in society. My role involves learning, sharing these insights, and contributing to changing mindsets to promote dignity and respect for all.
