What are the most significant cases or transactions that your legal team has recently been involved in?
Particularly in relation to our work at the company, we oversee the business relationships with our clients. It’s important to mention that the company operates in a highly regulated industry, so we frequently face legal challenges regarding what we can and cannot do. A major issue we often encounter is balancing legal constraints with the company’s commercial strategies. As a result, legal creativity is essential for drafting documents that enable us to provide telecom services while clearly defining the responsibilities of all parties involved. Last year’s commercial project was particularly challenging because it required drafting multiple documents that explained how we would deliver both regulated telecom services and non-regulated services, primarily IT services. To develop this project, we worked as an interdisciplinary team: lawyers, engineers, and product developers, among others, while also incorporating feedback from government entities. Thanks to all this collaborative effort, we were able to deliver a service that caters to clients with limited experience in the sector, helping them reduce expenses by avoiding contracts with other providers that would have increased their costs.
Could you share an example of a time when you came up with an innovation that improved how your legal team works and did not come at a large expense?
We are quite a small team, with only two lawyers dedicated to overseeing client relationships. As a result, our main focus is efficiency, which means maintaining clear communication between us to manage all client requests effectively. We have also implemented a digital platform that allows us to e-sign contracts. Additionally, we advocate for a home office policy, which helps us achieve a better work-life balance while maintaining our quality of service and efficiency levels.
What is a cause, business related or otherwise, that you care about, and why?
I have always been interested in human rights, ever since law school, and even did some work at the Comisión Nacional de Derechos Humanos, where my main project was an investigation into how companies align with human rights principles. One thing I have always loved about this job is that we have an incredible goal: providing low-income and rural communities with access to telecom services. This not only helps them stay in touch with their loved ones but also gives them access to education and a wealth of information that can improve their daily lives. This work is truly life-changing, and even though it can be challenging and, at times, frustrating, it is immensely fulfilling.
