Founded in 1995 after Mexican cinematography regulations were lifted in the early 1990s, Cinemex currently owns and operates over 270 cinema complexes in every major city in Mexico. Ana Piedra Calderón led a legal team of five members from January 2015 until January 2017, when she moved to a role with ecommerce company Amazon. During that period the legal team was merged with the international team with the result that specialised tasks were assigned to each member. Although the team contains many talents, Piedra Calderón notes that one particular member of team worthy of note is Fernanda Canseco Vallarta who is a ‘very young lawyer who has taken on the direction of the real estate and development department and has implemented processes where everything works in a timely and effective manner’. With the company expanding internationally, the team as a whole has been involved in several international M&A transactions and international organic and inorganic growth transactions. The team was therefore a crucial part of helping the company opening its first cinema in the US at the much anticipated new Brickell City Centre in Miami, Florida. It is also close to opening further US chains in both Closter, New Jersey and Gulfstream Park in Hallandale Beach, Florida.
