The Coca-Cola Company’s largest bottler, Coca Cola FEMSA, was founded in 1991 as a joint venture between the US beverage company and Monterrey-based FEMSA. Today the company earns around $11bn in annual revenue. Carlos Luis Díaz Sáenz heads the legal team as general counsel and has led its involvement in a number of recent deals. In 2016 the team worked on the deal which saw Coca-Cola FEMSA buy soy-based beverage maker AdeS from Unilever for $575m, which formed part of the company’s plan to bolster its Latin American portfolio with more nutritious offerings. Later that year Coca-Cola FEMSA’s Brazilian subsidiary bought Brazilian company Vonpar for over $1bn in another milestone deal that Díaz Sáenz’s team assisted on that will increase its presence in the country. Continuing their prolific work in the area of M&A, the team will again be utilised in 2017 whilst the company plans to partner with The Coca-Cola Company to buy a US-based entity before the end of the year.
