Since its first venture into Mexico in 1989, Spanish insurance company MAPFRE has since established itself as the largest non-life insurance company in Latin America. Its legal team of 45 lawyers is led by secretary general and director of legal affairs, Alfredo Bonifaz Molina. In the last two years the team has been reorganised to achieve operational efficiency in business development and developed technological tools for effective business management. In facilitating the latest insurance products for the company, MAPFRE’s legal team developed business models with the relevant banking and financial companies for the distribution of the insurance products. One major achievement saw MAPFRE awarded Pemex’s comprehensive policy in 2015 through a national public tender. Effective until June 2017, the policy guarantees the coverage of all of Pemex’s platforms, refineries, petrochemical complexes, gas processing centres and other facilities. Key members of the team include Enrique Mendoza Anaya, who has established a basis to attain legal certainty in the transactions executed by the company, Javier García Rios who developed the fiscal security standards in the company’s transactions, and Rufino Ramos Salinas who optimised legal assistance to the company’s customers, which has positively impacted on the MAPFRE’s insurance sales.
