Led by Francisco Hernández-Castillo, an award-winning corporate vice president for legal, the legal department at Mexichem provides financial legal support to the eighth largest company in Mexico, leader in plastic pipes and one of the largest chemical and petrochemical companies. As well as its core business of petrochemicals, Mexichem has subsidiaries that provide services in the areas of general insurance, investment funds, car insurance, health insurance, mortgages, commercial banking and retirement funds. It is to this end that the legal team has evolved to support the company’s success. In addition to operating as an exceptional leader, constantly driving the team forward, Hernández-Castillo has been consistently recognised with awards in the region: in 2014 he was featured as one of the top Hispanic legal leaders in the US. However, Hernández-Castillo is not the only talent in the legal department, with individuals in the team having developed their own market-leading expertise. Due to the team’s diligence and support of company ethics, in February 2017, Mexichem was selected as a member of the FTSE4Good emerging index (first edition) after demonstrating strong social, environmental and governance practices. Furthermore, as part of its international expansion projects, Mexichem contributes to the development of a number of countries by delivering an extended portfolio of products used in high growth sectors such as housing, telecommunications, drinking and potable water in the US, Europe, Asia, Africa, Middle East and Latin America. The team has been at the forefront of ensuring compliance in foreign policy, as well as supporting domestic expansion.
