Navistar Mexico
Navistar International has global revenue in the billions of dollars, and is one of the most important global truck manufacturers, providing a full range of medium to heavy vehicles for the logistics and industrials markets. Along with the US, Canada and Brazil, Mexico is one of Navistar’s major countries for truck dealerships, with these four accounting for 1,000 outlets globally. The company’s history of diversification, including adding a lucrative defence sector business to existing operations in recent years, provides unique challenges for the group’s legal personnel. The legal team for Navistar in Mexico is therefore required to keep up with this rapid pace of change. Jose Lechuga leads the department in his role as legal, governance, compliance and government affairs director, having been at Navistar for over a decade. In addition to dealing with legal work, Lechuga also coordinates compliance and company secretarial matters under the team’s umbrella, providing a direct link for the team’s input into the strategic planning framework of the business. In common with other industrial manufacturers that operate in Mexico, Navistar must look to the risk management and contingency planning skills available within their employee ranks to safely navigate through an uncertain political and economic landscape. The legal team will be a key part of this in the future, given their extensive knowledge of cross-border agreements.
