Nissan Mexicana
Japanese automobile manufacturer Nissan, first entered Mexico in 1959 and has since established itself as one of the largest carmakers in the country. Led by general counsel Armando Curiel since 2015, the legal team has played an important role in a number of projects before and since. In 2013 it participated in negotiating the successful contract to supply Nissan NV200 Taxi models for exclusive use in the City of New York. Following a dispute by a third party over the contract award, the team’s handling of the ensuing litigation demonstrated its resilience in getting the best outcome for the company as they successfully overturned a New York Supreme Court ruling at a higher appeals court. In 2014 the team again played a key role in the company’s development. After smoothly bringing Nissan’s fully electric vehicle to market, the legal department worked on negotiations which concluded in an investment between the Renault-Nissan Alliance and Daimler to build a new plant in Aguascalientes as a joint venture to develop premium compact vehicles.
