Siemens Mesoamérica, the Mexican arm of the global conglomerate, has a legal team of 15 lawyers, and is led by general counsel Juan Carlos Maroto, a ‘transnational lawyer with extensive international experience’. Providing efficient energy for Mexico in Sonoro state in North-eastern Mexico is the setting for one of Siemens’ most ambitious energy projects. The legal department have been integral to the smooth transition of Grupo México commissioning Siemens to build a combined cycle plant in addition to supplying electricity to the La Caridad copper mines and overall improvement of the plant’s efficiency. The plant has resulted in Grupo Mexico reducing costs by 40% and generating 33% more electricity. Leading the legal team through different divisions and jurisdictions they have been able to diminish costs significantly.
