Led by Mario Barreiro, Latin America regional legal counsel, the legal team at Vestas México are experts in energy law and international law with exceptional business acumen. Vestas, headquartered in Denmark, is the largest wind turbine company in the world and employs more than 21,000 people globally, with a core business on development, manufacturing, sale and maintenance of wind power plants. The legal team give the company continuous legal support to the necessary operation, procurement and transportation for the company throughout Mexico. The team is central to providing all legal counselling to management in regards to current and future wind sector law and regulatory impacts – often the company can be looking to complete work that does not have a counterpoint regulation in place yet. Encouraging new opportunities, the team has designed sturdy legal structures to implement the new joint venture agreements. Among their largest achievements, the team was involved in the 2015 Mareña wind project in Mexico, which included a large consortium of investors including Mitsubishi, Macquarie Mexican Infrastructure Fund and a €250m investment from Dutch pension fund PGGM.
