Becle is the parent company of Jose Cuervo in Mexico and Proximo Spirits in the US, and covers a large cross border commercial drinks retail empire. The company’s in-house legal department is led by Pedro Pablo Barragan senior vice president [and] global general counsel and consists of 12 lawyers and five support staff. The department is divided into two main divisions, Mexico and the US. The US division is led by Dean Mades, and Mexico is divided as well into four different areas, corporate, led by Cynthia Corro, whilst the IP division is led by Ricardo Juárez. Elizabeth Romero (agriculture) and Carlos Contreras (operations) complete the legal division leaders. The most important changes within the team recently have been the succession of the general counsel and after that, the successful IPO of the company under a new head of legal. The company’s IPO was the first Mexican IPO in the Trump administration’s era, launching on top of the benchmark, which put the company, within the first six months of its IPO, on the main Mexican Stock Exchange index. Barragan highlights that ‘the ethos of the team is to treat all matters with a business perspective; trying to protect the company’s assets and avoiding unnecessary conflicts, with a great sense of urgency’.
