Sigma is a multinational food processing and distribution company making refrigerated foods such as lunch meats, cheeses and yoghurts among other products. It is headquartered in San Pedro and has a high quality in-house legal team, which is led by experienced administrator and vice president of legal and public affairs Luis Musi Letayf, who is also is in charge of IP, animal health, health and regulatory departments within the company. The most senior lawyer in the team is legal manager Fabiola Merino Huidobro, who works within a team of five lawyers, a paralegal and an assistant. The team’s lawyers act as a group of legal chiefs, each with their own specialty; Raul Fernando Lopez Blanquet specialises in IP, Beatriz Eugenia Ramirez Maldonado in negotiations, Mihars Israel Hernandez Fabila in litigation whilst Idalia Gonzalez Marquez is responsible for administrative law. The team has been active in training other departments in IP, legal collection, antitrust and has an online course in commercial law. It has demonstrated its diligence and acumen by reviewing, drafting and negotiating around 2,500 agreements per year and having a 95% successful litigation rate. Lopez identifies that the team motto is to ‘prevent and resolve’.
