The global legal department at Signify is divided in four clusters: Mexico, Brazil, North Latin America and South Latin America. Each cluster has a head for legal and junior lawyers that support them. In Mexico, Arely Córdoba, head of legal Mexico and compliance officer, leads the legal team with two junior lawyers – Eduardo Pérez and Gustavo Alvarado – to support her. Córdoba is an intelligent lawyer that is constantly involved in high profile negotiations with customers, suppliers and internal clients. She gives general support to all areas in the company including four manufacturing plants located in the north of the country, and is responsible for the overall structure of the legal team. Pérez is ‘considered the brains of the team’ by Córdoba, for everything that requires a precise answer. He manages certain areas of the corporate office such as: human resources, sales, end user, VAPs, agents, integrated communications and real estate. According to Córdoba, Alvarado is ‘the muscle of the team’, and is involved in every negotiation that needs to be closed as soon as possible. Some describe him, even inside the company as the best results oriented partner. He manages certain areas of the corporate office such as the supply chain, sales, consumer channel, marketing and customer satisfaction. The three of them fully understand the business adding business value and legal acumen. One of the most important recent changes at Signify has been the change in the company’s name from Philips Lighting to Signify. This has impacted the business and all its areas providing the Mexican legal team with a challenge that it has skilfully met through its excellent teamwork. The team was also involved in the provision of lighting to the “Torre Bancomer” tower in Mexico City, the highest skyscraper in the country.
