Legal Team size: over 130 legal staff covering 21 countries in Latin America and the Caribbean

During the past year, what are you or your teams’ proudest accomplishments?

2024 was a testament to the talent and resilience of Citi’s Legal teams across Latin America. Despite challenging geopolitical and economic conditions, our lawyers consistently delivered innovative solutions and advised on some of the most complex and impactful transactions in the region. Notable achievements included pivotal infrastructure and financial deals, recognition of our lawyers by GC Powerlist across multiple jurisdictions, and leading modernisation efforts to bring agility and digitalisation to markets. A key milestone was the completion of Citi’s separation in Mexico, forming Grupo Financiero Citi Mexico and Grupo Financiero Banamex, a transformative transaction in Mexico. Citi’s efforts were recognised with 41 awards across various categories, highlighting our continued commitment to excellence.

What strategic priorities are guiding you and your team in 2025?

In 2025, our priority is to deliver best-in-class legal, regulatory, and reputational risk management. We will continue driving Citi’s revenue generation by executing complex transactions while fostering innovation and enhancing client relationships. Leveraging Citi’s global legal talent, we aim to act as “One Citi” and “One Legal” to connect clients across countries seamlessly. Furthermore, 2025 is a pivotal year for Citi as we continue setting up our newly created Financial Group in Mexico and ensuring we remain a key player in that market delivering excellence for our clients. Our unwavering focus on talent development and collaboration will ensure consistency and excellence throughout the Latin America Cluster.

Do you have a cause, business-related or otherwise, that you are passionate about?

We are deeply committed to developing talent and driving positive social impact in Latin America and the Caribbean. Our lawyers actively contribute to pro bono initiatives, partnering with universities, NGOs, and law firms to support vulnerable communities. In 2024, Citi lawyers across 16 countries participated in various activities, including mentoring young entrepreneurs, providing financial education to underserved groups, and advocating for gender equity. Notable efforts included initiatives in Argentina, Colombia and Peru for financial literacy, and the “Crece tu Empresa” program in Central America, which empowered over 50 entrepreneurs. These initiatives reflect our passion for shaping the future of the legal profession and contributing to the communities we serve.
