Legal compliance director | Banque Libano-Française
Joining Banque Libano-Française in 2007, Maya Hardini Abboud brings an unparalleled level of knowledge in banking and financial law to her role as head of legal compliance. In her current role for six years, she has seen her division grow significantly over this time, and the team is now composed of 14 persons, all dedicated to ensuring legal and regulatory compliance across the Banque Libano-Française Group. When discussing her setting up of the legal compliance division ’from the ground up’, Abboud says: ‘Having decided over time, with the bank’s general management’s support, to apply a broader perspective to legal compliance than was strictly required by the regulator, the division’s scope of work was widened to include law and regulations analysis, various local and international legal and regulatory matters, as well as compliance clearances’. Abboud credits this ‘wider interpretation’ of her role towards a mix of legal and compliance matters as being ‘a necessary trend in banking nowadays’ which has also made her division ‘a central actor in the global environment of the bank Group. As of today’, she concludes, ‘the legal compliance division and the legal division at the bank work hand in hand to ensure the Group is fully compliant with the laws and regulations in force’.
