Aarij S. Wasti is the director of legal and compliance at the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022. He has over 18 years of experience and is qualified in Canada, England, Wales and Pakistan and by way of background, a B.Com from McGill University and a J.D. from Dalhouise Law School. Aarij has also completed a number of executive education programmes including Cornell’s ILR School, Penn Law, Toronto Rotman, Cambridge and Princeton’s School of Public and International Affairs. After spending more than a decade in private practice, Aarij has spent much of the last 12 years working on the FIFA World Cup, first on the historic winning bid, through the decade long planning cycle and now on delivery phase. In his current position, Aarij is responsible for ensuring World Cup operations are legally compliant and that sponsors’ brands are adequately protected. Aarij, who happens to be a sports enthusiast, spends his free time — at least prior pandemic — traveling with his wife and two daughters,and serving on the boards of directors of both the American School of Doha and the Pakistan Business Council —Qatar. He is also the founder and CEO of Winsights Global in Toronto.
