Focus on: The role of the general counsel in the digital era
Legal departments are facing a digital revolution which transforms their role and responsibilities.
Automation combined with AI allows the processing of huge loads of documentation, identifying risks and opportunities, streamlining processes and increasing efficiency.
Tools facilitating the handling of due diligence, contract negotiation and board meetings have been available for many years. The challenge is to incorporate these tools into our day-to-day activities and re-assess the way we work in order to focus on bringing value to the core business, improve the turnaround of documents, combine automation for general tasks and tailor-made solution for strategic matters.
However, such transformation requires a strong will to conduct change. It has also a significant impact on how counsel shall grow and the qualities which shall be developed throughout our career. In a data driven economy, in-house counsels shall be more technology savvy and looking at solutions outside the box.
What is a cause, business related or otherwise, that you care about, and why?
Growing talents is a daily task which requires perseverance and humility. Without the right talents, conducting change is impossible.
What would you say are the unique qualities required to be successful as an in-house lawyer in your industry?
Common sense, dedication and willingness to learn.
What can law firms do to improve their service to the legal department?
Law firms shall learn how to provide pragmatic solution.
