Looking forward, what technological advancements do you feel will impact the role of in-house legal teams in the future the most?
I believe the most impactful technological advancements that will, in the future, impact the role of in-house legal teams are simpler and easier access to data, with automatic analyses, and comparison between different countries’ regulations. Today, we work in a global economy, as such, it is more than essential to get a one click access to major data and information, comparing the various legal systems involved during a business transaction.
What is a cause, business related or otherwise, that you care about, and why?
I would say compliance, especially nowadays with the recent international conflict between Ukraine and Russia, but even recently in Syria, Iran, and other similar cases. It is of essence to ensure that our business is in compliance with all the international regulations.
What would you say are the unique qualities required to be successful as an in-house lawyer in your industry?
For sure, having a business-oriented mind-set. Ultimately, our role is to support the growth of business, and not to be extremely rigid to a point that growing becomes impossible. As such, we should adopt a solution attitude, which I believe is crucial to succeed as an in-house lawyer.
What can law firms do to improve their service to the legal department?
I would say that law firms could improve by keeping us updated about any change of regulations and provide training courses on a regular basis about legal actualities. It is very important to always be up to date, to be able to take quick decisions and to support the growth of our business, and always be aligned with our values.
