How do you approach managing legal aspects during periods of instability or crises, and how does your legal strategy align with the broader business strategy to ensure the organisation’s resilience?
During times of instability or crisis, I focus on maintaining clear communication and quickly assessing risks so that we can respond effectively. It’s essential that the legal strategy aligns closely with the broader business goals to ensure the company remains resilient. I ensure that the legal team is a proactive partner in managing crises, offering timely and pragmatic advice. Flexibility is key — we build contingency plans and adaptable legal responses that protect the business but still allow us to move quickly when necessary.
What are the main cases or transactions that you have been involved in recently?
Lately, my focus has been on helping the group commercialize the innovative technologies we’ve developed. This involves navigating IP issues, structuring licensing agreements, and managing partnerships. As we shift towards commercializing advanced technologies, the key has been to find the balance between protecting the business whilst ensuring we maximize the technologies’ commercial value.
What is a topic of business (or otherwise) that you are passionate about?
I’m particularly passionate about the business of Artificial Intelligence, which is a rapidly growing field filled with exciting opportunities and open questions. AI has the potential to revolutionize industries, from improving efficiency to creating new business models that we haven’t even fully explored yet. What’s particularly intriguing is figuring out how businesses can strategically adopt AI to foster innovation and growth, while ensuring the technology becomes accessible to a wide range of users. It’s an area with incredible potential, and we’re only scratching the surface of what’s possible.
How have you integrated technology into your legal processes, and what impact has this had on efficiency and compliance?
We’ve made great strides in leveraging existing technology to streamline how we handle legal operations. Tools like the “legal front door” have been key in making processes more collaborative and transparent. These platforms have improved communication between the legal team and other departments, cutting down on delays and allowing us to focus more on providing strategic guidance rather than getting bogged down by administrative tasks.
