The legal team of Abu Dhabi Commercial Bank (ADCB), one of the most prominent commercial and investment banks in the Gulf region, has been instrumental in growing the bank’s operational functions and brand image. Led by Simon Copleston, the legal function has won a number of awards and received warm praise from nominators who commented on its broad-ranging expertise and ability to address complex cross-border issues. The legal department places strong importance on governance structures to support the banks development and has appointed the International Finance Corporation (IFC) of the World Bank to assist in the development of a governance road map. According to one nominator the team has been ‘active in ensuring that international best practice becomes central to all of the bank’s operations.’ The legal team is playing central role in the reorganisation of the board operations, management committees and risk management, all while adding the crucial element of transparency to activities.
