Bahri
The National Shipping Company of Saudi Arabia, known as Bahri, boasts a vast and diversified fleet of transport vessels able to ship a range of cargoes around the world. Invariably, their shipping operations are based primarily on crude oil transport, but chemicals, general cargo and bulk goods such as coal also take up a large portion of their workload. The company has been going from strength to strength in recent years, and has posted enviable profit figures in 2016 at a time when many Saudi companies are battling with the effects of low oil prices. On the back of this, the company has been taking positive steps to consolidate on these successes, with plans to add to their already sizeable fleet with the aim of becoming the largest operator of very large crude oil carriers (VLCCs) in the world. Bahri has recently announced a $1.5bn joint investment fund with Arab Petroleum Investments Corporation aimed at funding the acquisition of these new vessels, with the legal department at Bahri providing oversight to these proceedings. General counsel Abdullah Almosa moved from a career in private practice to develop the legal department at Bahri in response to these opportunities, and the team can take a significant share of credit for the company’s successes. With Bahri’s place as one of the premier global shipping companies established, further opportunities for the company to expand even further look likely.
