Climate change, the new technology and the shift to accommodate renewable energy has added to the pace of change, leading to a challenging operating environment even for the most successful companies. It is in this environment that the Middle East legal team of French multinational energy and utility company Engie has prospered. Acting as part of the regional management team, the team comprises of 21 lawyers and two paralegals spread across Dubai, Turkey and India with specified streamlined workload for each regions. Internal reorganisation has resulted in the Dubai headquarters’ legal team to split into two units, one that maintains assets under construction and new developments while the other unit managers operating assets in the GCC and Pakistan. The in-house lawyers have stepped up to the organisational changes by adapting to deliver services and activities and even new types of contracts in their new units. Moreover, the multi-national legal team are recognised business partners trusted with negotiating deals at the early stages and following through to the operational level of all activities.
