Gulf Aluminium Rolling Mill Company (Garmco), one of the largest aluminium rolling companies in the Middle East, has had an active 12 months. As part of their three-year efficiency strategy, the company has embarked upon a root-and-branch restructuring campaign which culminated in the closing of a number of unprofitable overseas operations, including in China and Korea. They have also taken steps to expand their existing operations, including via awarding an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract worth $55m to French firm Fives for a remelt plant, which will provide the company with increased capacity to reuse their metal products. This project, which includes a $3m natural gas line to support the new facility, began construction in January 2016 and is expected to activate in 2017.
