Founded in 1963, Petrochemical Industries Company (PIC) was the first chemical fertiliser complex in the region and has now grown to manufacture chemicals used in diversified markets across the world. With an increase in new technology, risk and transparency the legal team has grown in importance to guide the top management at PIC through hazards associated with commercial projects and decisions. Over the years the team has built close-knit relationships with business colleagues while gaining the trust of stakeholders and establishing new regulation complying agreements. The team is known for its strength in arbitration concerning cancelled investments and for its handling of matters with the Kuwait National Assembly, amongst other committees, regarding the consequences of cancellations. According to one nominator, the team strongly believes in each member ‘delivering what they have learnt in previous business ventures while tailoring it for the new ones’. In order to deliver on this principle the team has created a document highlighting the lessons learned from previous joint ventures and engineering procurement construction contracts. The PIC team has also conducted forums for oil sector legal departments to discuss latest developments in the field and to facilitate cross-channel communications to keep up to date on all developments.
