What are the projects that you are most proud of working on over the past 12 months?

I am most proud of how our team has successfully balanced our busy daily legal work with executing the new strategic goals of the company. Under my leadership, we have driven change and transformed the way we operate, allowing us to dedicate more time to strategic and high-impact work.

A few highlights include:

• leveraging AI: we use our Prosus AI tool, Toqan, on a daily basis, for example to review drafts and presentations, summarise lengthy texts, improve readability of our emails, propose draft texts or playbooks, explain complex legislation, etc. Additionally, we actively tested several AI-powered contract review tools with the aim to reduce review response times for the business.
• creating dashboards: we developed dashboards that visualise our legal data for periodic reporting, creating real-time insights for key stakeholders. These tools improved our ability to analyse trends, manage exposures and create reports. In fact, our dashboard design became the basis for a group-wide template, benefiting multiple departments.
• implementing an intake management system: we developed an internal intake management system that allows for significantly faster processing of certain document requests through a simple intake form with pre-set questions. This project has reduced response times because it eliminates inefficiencies like back-and-forth emails and improved overall workload management.

As a result of all our efforts, which were proof of a successful collaboration with our IT team, we reduced bottlenecks and response times, minimised manual work by more than 25% and reduced burdens for our portfolio companies. It has been a rewarding year of great teamwork and innovation, and I believe we have laid a good foundation for long-term operational excellence in the Prosus group.

What do you think sets you apart from other in-house counsel?

What sets me apart from other in-house counsel is my combination of broad legal experience and results-driven mindset. My traditional legal education at leading law firms (NautaDutilh Rotterdam and Van Eps Kunneman Van Doorne Curaçao) provided me with a solid foundation in corporate law, corporate litigation, and financing. I then co-founded Legaltree, a law firm with an innovative business model that sharpened my entrepreneurial spirit and strategic mindset. Over the years, I have worked as interim in-house counsel across multiple industries, broadening my expertise to include (sanctions) compliance, data privacy, contracting, and managing large multidisciplinary projects. These experiences equipped me to lead complex projects across multiple jurisdictions, ensuring alignment between legal and business objectives while delivering results. As a leader, I am a team player, project-driven, solutions-oriented, and like to think outside the box. I enjoy creating practical, innovative solutions that align with both business priorities and legal requirements.

What do you think are the most important attributes for a modern in-house counsel to possess?

In-house legal work today is far more than just providing legal advice: it requires in-house counsel to act as trusted business partners.

I believe the most important attributes include:

• communication skills: the ability to translate complex legal concepts into clear, actionable advice for stakeholders at all levels.
• adaptability and flexibility: in-house counsel must be able to adapt quickly to address emerging risks and opportunities in a rapidly changing environment.
• results-driven and solutions-oriented: deliver practical legal solutions, drive measurable results, and effectively manage projects to ensure execution.
• strategic alignment: in-house counsel should have a good understanding of the company’s goals, operations, and risk appetite to align legal efforts with broader business priorities.

What do you think is the greatest innovation you have enacted in the past year?

Our greatest innovation enacted in the past year has been the daily use of AI across our legal work. Under the leadership of our CEO, Prosus is leading the AI revolution and reshaping the digital landscape, and our legal team has fully embraced this entrepreneurial spirit. Experimenting with AI in a controlled environment has improved our response times, productivity and creativity.
