What are the projects that you are most proud of working on over the past 12 months?

I worked on over €1 billion in acquisitions, dispositions and transfers in a difficult market, significant Eurobond and secured financings. I worked on the execution of over 500 lease documents in-house, as well as major compliance, data privacy and policy reviews and improvements.

What strategies do you employ to ensure the successful digital transformation of a legal department while maintaining compliance with your country’s data protection laws?

At Prologis we have implemented a Global Legal Innovation & Technology Group to assess, prioritise, and implement coordinated technology and innovation projects. Our Head of Global Operations and Head of Data Privacy play key roles, ensuring compliance remains central to all initiatives. To ensure compliance with the various data protection laws globally, our digital transformation strategy includes the following key principles:

Compliance by design – we integrate data protection considerations at the outset of any legal tech project, working closely with IT security and compliance teams to ensure alignment with local and international regulations.

Secure data governance – we implement role-based access controls, encryption, and secure cloud solutions to protect legal data. Our data retention policies ensure compliance with jurisdiction-specific requirements, balancing operational needs with regulatory obligations.

Cross-functional collaboration – digital transformation is most effective when legal, IT, and compliance teams work together. We take a business-friendly approach, ensuring that new technology aligns with enterprise goals while maintaining regulatory compliance.

Continuous improvement and risk management – we regularly assess our tech stack, update policies to reflect evolving regulations, and conduct data protection impact assessments (DPIAs) where necessary.

By embedding compliance at every stage and focusing on efficiency, security, and user adoption, we ensure that our legal digital transformation delivers real value while maintaining regulatory integrity.

Based on your experiences in the past year, are there any trends in the legal or business world that you are keeping an eye on, of which you think other in-house lawyers should be mindful?

Over the past year, the rapid rise of AI, particularly tools like ChatGPT, has been extraordinary and is transforming the way our legal team, and legal teams more generally, operate at an amazing pace. It’s changing not just how we work internally, but also what we expect from external counsel – and what we’re willing to pay for.

AI can now handle tasks like contract analysis, legal research, and document review with incredible speed and accuracy. This frees up in-house teams to focus on more strategic and complex work while pushing law firms to redefine their value proposition. Instead of charging for routine work, external lawyers will need to deliver deeper expertise, judgment, and innovation. The legal industry is on the cusp of a major shift, and those who embrace AI will have a significant edge.
