What are the projects that you are most proud of working on over the past 12 months?

One of our major projects we worked on for the past ten months, both from colleagues within the legal team as with colleagues from other departments, was the redesign of our most used template. We have shortened the content, used more direct language (no legal language, but everyday English) and have used visuals to explain difficult concepts such as the affiliates definition. All with the aim to design a contract that everyone would understand. It was both incredibly fun, as challenging, to think about legal documents in this way.

What do you think are the most important attributes for a modern in-house counsel to possess?

I think it is most important to be a connector. The legal department is one of the few departments that has interaction with every other department within the company. This to me, is a huge responsibility, as it enables us to mitigate risks and assist with leveraging opportunities by connecting departments with each other. The group of stakeholders that the legal department has to take into account is also very broad. Being able to level with people from management to operations, is therefore of utmost importance in order to get everyone at the same page.

What is a cause, business or otherwise, that you are passionate about?

Working in the field of renewable energy and innovative energy solutions, I am very passionate about the energy transition that we are currently in. Problems which did not exist ten years ago. are popping up every single day. It demands lots of creativity to find solutions, and one thing I truly like about this market is that everyone involved is adamant that we need to work together in order to get to the next phase. The level of trust different market participants put in each other is remarkable, and refreshing (especially when coming from PE M&A). I am keen to play my part in this as well, and therefore take part in knowledge sharing sessions, industry associations etc.
