What are the projects that you are most proud of working on over the past 12 months?

Over the past twelve months, I had the privilege of leading several impactful projects that significantly contributed to the company’s overall success. One example is my successful reduction of a proposed financial fine, where I was able to demonstrate the lack of merit in the claim. This effort not only resulted in a direct financial benefit for our company, but also highlighted the importance and added value of in-house legal counsel.

Additionally, I addressed certain reference prices under regulatory scrutiny, working closely with colleagues and external counsel to advocate for adjustments that supported our pricing strategy. I was also involved in complex patent litigation, acting as the crucial link between our internal business teams and external counsel.

Lastly, I led a data privacy initiative that aligned our practices with evolving regulations and prepared us for the years ahead. By working hand-in-hand with the Digital and Marketing team, I was able to provide tailored legal guidance that balanced compliance with innovative business strategies.

Overall, these projects exemplified my commitment to fostering collaboration, driving value, and ensuring that legal considerations support our strategic objectives, reinforcing my role as a trusted advisor within the organisation.

What do you think sets you apart from other in-house counsel?

What sets me apart from other in-house counsel is my ability to transform complex legal concepts into comprehensive, actionable insights for my business colleagues. I firmly believe that effective communication is the cornerstone of a successful legal function, and I strive to foster an environment where legal and business teams collaborate seamlessly. As in-house counsel, it is crucial to understand the challenges faced by my colleagues and to provide tailored solutions that align with their goals.

I am passionate about educating the business, ensuring that my colleagues not only understand the legal implications of their decisions but also feel empowered to make informed choices. By combining these strengths — clarity in communication, a human approach and a commitment to education — I aim to bridge the gap between legal complexities and business realities.

Based on your experiences in the past year, are there any trends in the legal or business world that you are keeping an eye of which you think other in-house lawyers should be mindful?

The rise of AI and automation in legal processes is reshaping how legal services are delivered, creating a need not only for compliance with evolving regulations but also for in-house counsel who can confidently work with AI tools. Secondly, the increasing focus on ESG is driving companies to adopt more sustainable practices, making it essential for legal teams to understand related liabilities and reporting requirements. Lastly, data privacy and cybersecurity remain top concerns, particularly with stringent regulations such as the GDPR, EHDS and NIS2. Staying informed about these trends will enable in-house counsel to navigate the complexities of the legal landscape effectively.
