What are the projects that you are most proud of working on over the past 12 months?

This past year, I have worked on strengthening legal, compliance, and governance frameworks while ensuring they remain practical and adaptable. My focus has been on simplifying structures, enhancing compliance, and ensuring regulatory alignment across jurisdictions.

A key milestone was completing my Masters in Law and Finance at the University of Amsterdam, which deepened my understanding of financial structures and investment strategies. This knowledge has been invaluable in bridging law and finance in my role.

Another major transition was moving from private practice to an in-house role. Shifting from law firm work to in-house counsel required a new, solution-driven approach, closer collaboration with business teams, and a stronger focus on strategy.

I have led initiatives, such as streamlining investment agreements, refining risk management, and advising on cross-border transactions. I approach legal work with a calm, collaborative mindset, ensuring processes empower business goals while fostering trust and compliance.

What do you think sets you apart from other in-house counsel?

Calm. Lawyers are usually perceived as stressed-out, too busy, which makes us difficult to approach. I want my team to feel calm when they reach out to me, so that we can work together with a clear focus. That’s why I do my best to practice calmness, understanding that staying calm through our busy lives is key to keep a clear mind and healthy work relationships.

What do you think are the most important attributes for a modern in-house counsel to possess?

Active listening. The modern in-house corporate world is faster than ever before. We can often be tempted to swift through problems to “get things done fast”. I think we need to remember and practice active listening, giving our internal client the opportunity to fully express the issue at hand. Then, we might have insights that will make our advice more effective, while fostering and creating the relationship of trust that the legal practice relies upon.

What is a cause, business or otherwise, that you are passionate about?

Impact investing. I am fortunate enough to work in a firm that does exactly that, investing with an impact. I believe that we can reshape the economy to be more sustainable and inclusive through consciously investing in companies that are working towards that goal. I want to see the money go to entrepreneurs that have an impact in their communities, who are leaders for the next generation of change. I love to think that I am also facilitating that process by investing my own legal skills to support the impact investing space.
