As head of legal, I prioritise fostering a strong legal-business relationship through alignment with organisational direction; regular communication with functional heads; legal training; participation in strategy meetings; collaboration in projects; providing tailored guidance; cross-training; feedback mechanisms; and organising events. These efforts aim to actively contribute to the overall success of the business.

How does the in-house legal function contribute to the overall dispute resolution strategy of the organisation?

In-house legal counsel enhances the organisation’s dispute resolution strategy through early case assessment, risk management, contract drafting, alternative dispute resolution, litigation management, compliance, collaboration, data analysis, policy development, cost-effective measures, and continuous improvement, ensuring proactive and strategic dispute resolution.

What are some of the main legislative or regulatory changes that have impacted you?

Key legislative and regulatory shifts affecting my industry involve the enactment of the Finance Act of 2021, particularly concerning sugar tax. This has had adverse effects on the Nigerian food and beverage sector, resulting in a decline in revenue for the industry.
