How do you approach managing legal aspects during periods of instability or crises, and how does your legal strategy align with the broader business strategy to ensure the organisation’s resilience? 

Managing legal aspects of the business during periods of instability requires an agile and flexible multi-dimensional approach.  Our legal processes are tailored to align with the most stringent local laws, policies, organisational values and principles. As such, I align our legal strategies with the broader business strategies to ensure business objectives are attained despite external volatility and uncertainties. An agile process and structure provides a winning environment for the business. To ensure that we remain resilient, comprehensive risk profiles are considered to ensure that numerous risks are mitigated in the face of unavoidable uncertainties and volatility in the business environment. Our legal strategy is assessed and reviewed from time to time to ensure operational excellence and alignment with the evolving needs of the business.

In your opinion, what are the main trends affecting your work now?   

A combination of the factors listed above have affected my work recently.  However, economic factors including but not limited to inflation, has had the largest impact. As such, one must remain flexible and agile in managing the volatile, uncertain, complex and ambiguous developments in the external environment.

What strategic priorities are guiding your legal team into 2025?

Aligning legal strategies with the business strategies to proactively boost the performance of the business. There will be a focus on continuous third party risk management and corresponding risk mitigation plans. Continuous focus on the contract management process. Continuous legal trainings on topics of interest and leveraging on new technologies.
