Eni is an Italian-headquartered major energy company, and whose Norwegian subsidiary – Eni Norge – was first founded in 1965. The company has had a major impact in the history of the oil and gas sector in the country, having discovered the Goliat oil field in 2000, and now produces from all the regions of the Norwegian continental shelf. The company currently has ownership of 55 licenses in the North Sea, the Norwegian Sea and the Barents Sea, and is the operator of 12 – seven of which are in the Barents Sea, located off the coasts of Norway and Russia. Due to this large and important remit, particularly in terms of the volatile nature of the commodities industry, Eni Norge is reliant on a legal team well-versed in all aspects of related legal work. A legal manager within the team is Aksel Luhr, who compliments the bountiful array of expertise in the team with his own legal knowledge in the energy sector. Providing it is a function that encourages and allows revenue generating activity, Eni Norge’s annual profits in 2017 were NOK 15.8bn thanks to its activities related to the equity production of oil, natural gas liquids, gas and petroleum.
