Norske Shell
As one of the world’s foremost countries in terms of the export of oil, it is unsurprising that oil and gas giant and sixth-largest company in the world Shell has an impressive legal function helping it achieve its business goals in Norway. Having been recognised in 2017’s GC Powerlist: Norway, Norske Shell’s legal director Hans Olav Holmen heads up the legal department for the company and since joining has established himself as an important player in the senior management team. Norske Shell’s in-house lawyers contribute with efforts related to a number of legal practice areas and commercial affairs, including but not limited to – labour law, gas sales, corporate governance, joint ventures, exploration matters, litigation, health and safety and competition law. Most recently, the team was present when Shell sold oil and gas assets in Norway and Malaysia worth approximately US$1.3bn, helping the company further its three year divestment plan outlined by senior business management in 2016.
