Orkla is a Norwegian consumer goods company that operates in the Nordic region, Eastern Europe, Asia and the US, supplying branded products to the grocery, pharmacy and bakery sectors. While it focuses on the consumer goods market, Orkla also operates in the aluminium solutions and financial investment sectors. As of December 2017 Orkla had over 18,000 employees and a group turnover of NOK 39.6bn. Some of the companies owned by Orkla are Abba Seafood, Kalev and Procordia Food. Its healthcare brands include Persil and Dove among others. The company is listed on the Oslo Stock Exchange and is one of Norway’s oldest business conglomerates – its history dates back to over 350 years, when it first started out as a mining company. Since then it has been through several mergers, the most significant with raw materials producer Borregaard in the 1980s. Orkla’s group director of legal affairs Karl Otto Tveter has seen the company through its many phases, having joined in 1992 as a legal attorney, and currently has oversight of a legal team that provides expert counsel to its business colleagues.
