SpareBank1 is a collection of 14 local independent banks with 300 offices across Norway specialised in community private and business banking services. The alliance is structured by two holding companies that own stakes in the rest of the companies, SpareBank1 Gruppen, owner of eight of the alliance, and SpareBank 1 Banksamarbeidet, owner of the other six with the purpose of applying economies of scale as a group to facilitate the development of the smaller and more remote banks. Steven Simonsen, chief legal officer, has been with the legal department at SpareBank1 Gruppen since 1996. He joined with an experienced career in private practice and with strong financial legal experience. He directs a team of expert lawyers who handle all SpareBank1 Gruppen’s legal affairs and financial compliance matters, and is known for its expertise in navigating a variety of related business challenges.
