Team size: 55
Can you briefly explain how the legal team is structured, highlighting key individuals and their role within the department?
We are an international and diversified team with people across different places. Five of them are based in Norway; others are in Sweden, Germany, India, Brazil and the UK. In 2021 we reorganised the department, introducing an intermediate level currently with three vice presidents — Emma Voss, Christina Kohlmann, and Alexander Beck- have people in their teams reporting to them.
Frode Røttingen is the head of the Norway team, and Daneil Seeger in Oslo is leading the continental Europe team covering the office in Germany, Netherlands, France, Spain, and Italy. Josh Crome in London heads the UK, Ireland, the US and South America. Mats Kristensson, currently situated in Stockholm, is the head of the following countries: Sweden, Albania, Turkey, and India. In addition to this, we have a small unit focusing on operational legal matters, including knowledge management, digitalisation, and company governance.
Lars Henie is senior vice president and head of group tax; however, team members in group tax are all key individuals and what really characterises the department is the inclusive approach and strong team spirit across geographies and functional areas.
What are the most significant cases or transactions that your legal team has been recently involved in?
The legal team has supported the Statkraft business on many large projects and transactions in the last year, including the construction of large hydropower plants in India and Chile; the development and construction of large onshore wind plants in Brazil, Chile, the UK, Ireland and Norway; the acquisition of 43 smaller wind parks in Germany and France; sale of large wind farms in Norway and UK; the joint ventures on two large offshore wind projects in Norway; the acquisition of EV charging companies in Sweden and UK and restructuring of EV charging activities into one company (MER) in Norway, Sweden, Germany and UK; and several joint ventures for early phase hydrogen projects. We have also supported Statkraft’s solar energy projects. While acquiring the solar development company Solarcentury, we are also involved in developing and constructing solar plants in Ireland, Netherlands, France, Spain, Italy, and India.
What would you say the main focus is for the company for the next year or so?
Statkraft is a global company that has constantly expanded and ambition to keep increasing its worldwide presence. We are focusing on optimising and expanding our hydropower fleet, ramping up as wind and solar developers, growing our customer business and developing new business initiatives within renewable energy. Our key priority as we advance will be to support the group in delivering on its strategy.
