How do you feel the pandemic has changed the world of work for in-house counsel and the function of the general counsel?
In recent years, the in-house lawyer’s role has been shifting towards a more strategic profile, requiring the development of soft skills, such as empathy and leadership. The dynamism of the digital world and the use of artificial intelligence to simplify processes and flexible working modalities have only accelerated the development of these skills, resulting in in-house lawyers with more creative minds to navigate complex scenarios.
What are some of the key developments – legal, geopolitical or otherwise – that have affected your business over the past year?
Our businesses have been impacted not only by the consequences of the Covid-19 pandemic but by the unstable political situation that our country has been going through for several months. This has affected public purchases and the confidence of the private sector in our country, which has repercussions on the entire Peruvian population.
Looking forward, what technological advancements do you feel will impact the role of in-house legal teams in the future the most?
The technological advancements that will most impact the role of in-house teams are comprehensive electronic systems for the administration of contracts and electronic tools for the best litigation administration.
