What are the most significant cases and/or transactions that your legal team has recently been involved in?

We advised the company to navigate a legal challenge – dispositions issued by municipalities. It involved creating legal strategy for some proceedings before the Competition Authority (CA). The award given by the CA will not only be binding for PA Peru but also any third party who might be affected by the same illegal dispositions.

Looking forward, what technological advancements do you feel will impact the role of in-house legal teams in the future the most?

Technological advancements will help in-house counsel to manage legal and business risks for their internal clients including business operation function. In-house legal department will benefit from development of legal technology in the areas of virtual hearing and document management.

How do you feel the pandemic has changed the world of work for in-house counsel and the function of the general counsel?

In-house lawyers are no longer mere legal advisors. They are now regarded as business partners of their organisations – required to understand business acumen and to create strategy to mitigate potential risks.

What are some of the key developments – legal, geopolitical or otherwise – that have affected your business over the past year?

The political instability in Peru led the domestic gas industry to face huge challenges. As one of the leading companies in the industry, PA Peru constantly developed different strategies to overcome the obstacles caused by the political and economic situation. We successfully led massification process – building new infrastructure for gas production to achieve a cleaner and energetical matrix.
