What are the most significant cases and transactions that your legal team has recently been involved in?

2021 and 2022 have been critical years for my legal team. We have been involved in exciting, new projects which I am not yet able to disclose to the public. Being the largest economic Group in Peru gives us the privilege of being involved in huge, cross-border transactions in our day-to-today business. In addition, we have developed an extraordinarily strong and committed compliance structure, which is especially important for our sustainability strategy i.e., corporate governance.

How do you feel the pandemic has changed the world of work for in-house counsel and the function of the general counsel?

I would say that the pandemic has made general counsel develop a deeper sense of risks. The pandemic not only brought a health disaster, but various kinds of risks for the work of an in-house counsel which we need to keep up with. I would say that as important as it is to have a strong transactional background, I constantly look for new talent with risk experience and criteria, so that they are constantly raising and monitoring various kinds of risk in all our legal work.

What are some of the key developments – legal, geopolitical or otherwise – that have affected your business over the past year?

As the world goes into an era of increasingly complicated regulation, legal teams are becoming more relevant for the Board and for the CEO. In that sense, I can say that overregulation has affected some business developments in the past year.
